Valdez Gets Ready To Serve Its Last Supper; Will Be Reborn In A Grander Space Later This Summer

Three years after successfully bringing the Latino Street Party to 606 King West, Valdez is ready to take on a larger, four story venue at 485 King West.

Steve Gonzalez (former Chef de Cuisine, Origin and fan favourite on Top Chef Canada) will continue as Chef and managing partner. “I’m very proud of what our team accomplished at Valdez. We gave Latino culture a home on King West. The new venue will take that vibe to the next level and give us an opportunity to share a bigger melting pot of unique Latin American flavours,” says Gonzalez.

Although no official name or opening date has been released, the new project will launch late Summer 2016. “I guarantee the new spot will be unlike anything else in Toronto. Our goal is to create a destination that will be talked about around the world,” says managing partner, Matty Tsoumaris.

The first floor restaurant will be heavily influenced by the current Valdez aesthetic and menu; second floor will feature a lounge with a raw bar and a secret path to the much loved Escobar; third floor will boast a 2,200 sq. ft. event space; and the fourth floor will house a huge four season outdoor Terraza inspired by ‘Asado”, the legendary barbeque and rotisserie cuisine from Uruguay.

Valdez will be operating as usual until Saturday May 7th. Fans of Gonzalez will be able to get their fix throughout the summer as Chef hits the road with his brand new food trailer filled with Valdez favourites and new menu items. In addition to popping up at food festivals and city streets, Gonzalez will make several guest appearances in some of Toronto’s hottest kitchens.
