TORONTO (June 19, 2017) – At last, enthusiasts of authentic Spanish wines will be able to taste from the exclusive collection of Mercat Del Carmen’s co-owner and in-house wine enthusiast, Veronica Laudes.
Sister business to Carmen, one of the city’s most popular tapas and paella restaurants, the newly transformed Mercat will serve as an intimate space where diners can enjoy daily tapas and pintxos specials alongside unique, imported wines from Spain, a truly distinctive Español experience for those venturing to Trinity Bellwoods.
“We have friends and customers in the neighbourhood who like to call Carmen or Mercat home. Now we have a unique opportunity to transport these guests to a different place by offering a casual Spanish experience with exceptional service. The wine list is carefully curated and selected by us. We seek lesser-known micro-wineries that are producing great-tasting, uncomplicated wines,” added Veronica.
Veronica’s wine and sherry collection is distinguished by her hand-selection process during which she explores overseas locations like La Rioja, Haros and the Canary Islands, discovering local vineyards while gaining a true understanding of the story behind each while building rapport with the owners and producers.
Veronica says the revamped Mercat lives by popular Spanish saying “Bueno, Bonito, Barato” meaning good, pretty and inexpensive!
Mercat Del Carmen’s Wine Bar is located at 920 Queen Street West, open Thursday-Saturday until 12am.
