Hockey, Drake, Igloos, “Oot,” “Eh” (sigh) and all of the Timbits; these are just some of the things people bring up when asked what they’re reminded of when they think of Canada. However, none are more mentioned than our amazing, maple leaf-adorned Canadian flag.
First raised on Parliament Hill in 1965, our flag was designed by George Stanley, the then-Dean of Arts at the Royal Military College of Canada. He had submitted two designs, the second having the red sections horizontal with three leaves on one stem. Stanley preferred the sole leaf design, noting it as a symbol of unity. Although National Flag of Canada Day is celebrated on February 15th, it remains a symbol of pride year round by Canadians across the country and the world, especially on Canada Day.
In recognition of our favourite flag colours and #Canada150, we’ve curated our Top 10 #InstaGood Canadian-Inspired Desserts. Happy Birthday, Canada!
