A holiday honouring and celebrating our dearly departed, Day of the Dead has been a staple tradition for not only Jarritos Canada, but also its #SuperGood followers. And what better way to embrace tradition than by bringing together Jarritos’ virtual community with a virtual celebration everyone could attend comfortably from their homes.
Traditional elements of Day of the Dead include the making and sharing of food and beverages, plus decorating with sugar skulls (also known as Calaveras.) In Mexican culture, people will often pain their faces with sugar skulls to visually honour those who have passed on.
This is why Day of the Dead at Home with Jarritos Canada‘s interactive festivities featured an inside look at the guac ways of El Catrin Executive Chef Chef Olivier Le Calvez, #SuperGood cocktail lessons from Salty Paloma Founder Amanda Chen and a demonstration in sugar skull makeup from TV & Film Makeup & Special F/X Artist Ashley Vieira.
“Branding and Buzzing has delivered the most immersive virtual events I’ve experienced so far. What really brings this to life is having a host walk us through the event, taking us into different spaces where an expert is featured. I had the chance to lead a cocktail class and loved that I could be a part of a larger event that was completely virtual! I also really enjoyed having featured guests keep the energy going. An hour flew by in no time!” said Amanda Chen.
Admission to the party was free but a special add-on kit was made available to order. This allowed guests to participate in creating delicious Day of the Dead food and beverages from home in real-time alongside the hosts. Contents included ingredients for tacos, guacamole, the cocktails plus a makeup kit to transform their faces into their very own sugar skulls.
One lucky guest even logged off as a winner of a $100 gift card to El Catrin, just for participating!
What They Said
“Such a fun event. My husband Jim & I were channelling our inner millennial – I think he couldn’t take his eyes off the guacamole! And Aimee, wow, you are a star! So much so that our teenagers kept hovering around watching the feed and stealing our chips and Jarritos”
– Lorraine Bruce Helmkay, guest and Vice President, Canada Food & Drink at Scottish Development International.
“Had a great time at the Jarritos Day of the Dead virtual event. I loved having a diversity of speakers and activities to follow along with- it made for a much more dynamic event, and I felt much more relaxed as a panellist. The event flowed really well, thanks to the fact that Aimee and the team were on top of it!”
– Andrew “Gunnarolla” Gunadie
“I really enjoyed the Jarritos virtual hangout! It was interactive, delicious (for the eyes and the tummy!) and felt like I was invited to one of those memorable dinners, with great food and fantastic drinks. Thank you Jarritos for this lovely evening, I learned a lot about Día de Muertos and had a wonderful time”
