Bourbon, made from mash that’s 51% corn, offers notes of caramel, adding yuletide cheer to any glass on the rocks or in traditional cocktails.
1 oz Basil Hayden’s Bourbon
1/4 oz Calvados
1/4 oz Countreau
1 rinse Herbsaint/Absinthe
2 dashes Orange Bitters
1 Orange Zest
Rinse classic coupe glass or martini glass with Herbsaint/Absinthe/Pernod and leave stand. Combine rest of ingredients in stirring glass and stir for about 30 seconds. Strain into coupe and serve straight up with expressed orange oil and zest for garnish.
Tennessee whiskey, will bring a smoothness to any cocktail which comes from the filtering process through charcoal chips that happens right before it goes into the casks for aging.
1 1/2 oz Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7
1/5 oz Simple Syrup
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
1 Dark Cherry
1 Orange Twist
Half-fill a rock glass with cubed ice. Pour Old no. 7 over ice. Add remaining ingredients and stir for 20-30 seconds. Garnish with an orange twist and cherry.
Rye, made from 51% rye grain mash, leans on the drier side and makes for a festive addition to classics like the Manhattan, Sazerac or Whiskey Sour. Give it a try in the recipe below.
1 oz Woodford Reserve Bourbon
1/2 oz Sweet Vermouth
2 dashes Orange Bitters
1 Cherry
Fill cocktail shaker with ice. Add all ingredients and shake for 20-30 seconds. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with cherry.
