We caught up with Cam on the challenges of working in the social media space, and on what upcoming trends will dominate Twitter in 2016.

First off, tell us about what you do.

Professionally, I’m the Canadian communications lead for Twitter in Canada. Unprofessionally, I’m a music blogger at Completely Ignored

Tell us a bit about the work you’ve done with Branding and Buzzing.

I’ve guested with Branding & Buzzing’s Sean Beckingham on a number of panels such as the Restaurant Canada Show and Spark Sessions. I also DM (direct message on Twitter) with Sean and Marian on various topics. These may include social media, baseball, snacks and other essentials.

How frequent do you post on your own social media outlets?

Early and often.

What are some of the challenges you face working in the social media space?

It’s not a challenge per se but the velocity with which social media moves. It’s exciting, unpredictable and (at times) exhausting. I love it.

What was the best advice you’ve ever received from a mentor?

“Work hard, be nice to people and shut your mouth”. I’m paraphrasing but still think this is brilliant advice. It’s smart and simple.

What do you think makes “Tweeting” in Toronto different from anywhere else in Canada?

It’s colder than Tweeting in Brazil or Thailand. Also, way more #BlueJays and @DrakeTweets (and @thedrakehotel Tweets) in Toronto.

What advice would you give to newcomers in this industry?

Social media is great but there’s no substitute for connecting with people in person. And yeah, work hard, be nice to people and shut your mouth.

What upcoming trends do you predict for the Twitterverse?

More video, more photos and more dynamic content.

What’s one thing everyone should know about you?

I’m amphibious.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Write about music. Listen to music. Cut vegetables. Eat vegetables. Etc.
