It may be a time for New Year Resolutions and new promises for renewed lifestyles but what really gets us excited is a NEW YEAR for food trends in 2016.

Sure, there may be plenty of lists and predictions but as a food agency, we have a first-hand, insider’s scoop on what will be hot this year.

Have a read and weigh in!  What do YOU think will be 2016’s gastronomic darling?

PUNCH BOWLS

Move over beer, the crowd favourite to kick-off game night include orders of booze-induced, fruity punch bowls

AMAZON AND UBERING THE RESTAURANT SCENE

There’s an app for that– food. Everything’s coming up digital and we’re seeing a great rise in food ordering and delivery apps that make take-out a breeze.

VEGETABLES AS THE MAIN MEAL

Vegetables are not playing second fiddle to meat anymore as we see all things cruciferous get torched, smoked, cooked whole, and burnt. Mom always did say we should eat more greens.

POKE IS THE NEW CEVICHE

You won’t need your passport to taste this fresh fish salad from Hawaii. This is unforgettable Polynesian pleasure.

FOODHALLS

Upscale Foodhalls will be offering gourmet eats in multisensory settings to make you feel as though you’re strolling through a fresh european marketplace.

QSR (FLOCK, MELTWICH)

Fast-casual (aka Quick Service Restaurants) offer the best of both worlds: premium restaurant meals coupled with the swift service and affordable prices of a fast-food restaurant.  And best of all? Wine and beer are available too.

CHICKEN

We’re clucking for more chicken.  Look out for organic, local and farm-friendly poultry showing up as deep fried comfort food, in grilled cheeses, poutines and as whole birds for an easy weeknight dinner.

SPICES (DRIED AND HOT SPICES/PEPPERS)

We’re spicing things up and bringing the heat. Call it the Sriracha Effectt: ghost pepper from India; sambal from Southeast Asia; gochujang from Korea; harissa, sumac and dukka from North Africa are all making an appearance on our plates.

MEAL KITS

Don’t have time to grocery shop? Let easy Meal Kits help you out.  Delivered to your door, you’ll receive all the ingredients, tools, and unique recipes to make a restaurant-worthy meal at home.

We’re in for a new year filled with taste adventures and we hope that you’ll be adventurous with your resolutions.
